ResQ | Ballpoint | Spalted Birch | The Canadian | Various finishes

$70.00

Spalting is a form of wood coloration caused by fungi. Primarily found in dead trees, spalting can also occur in living trees under stress. The spalting found in this birch was a happy accident because I ran out of space to properly dry the wood. The moisture in the wood began to mold in some of the pieces giving way to some pretty unique patterns. Birch symbolically represents new beginnings and instead of being chipped or set aside to dry for firewood, it was paired with hardware that bears the Maple Leaf and was given a new life as a pen. As this is a natural wood product it is not possible to duplicate. Each pen is uniquely yours.

I make all Driftwood Pens with distinction in Coquitlam BC, Canada. Each Original Driftwood, RES’Q, Kaleidoscope and Fusion pen is made using material that has been foraged or comes from reclaimed items, the resin is coloured and poured in-house and the pens are hand turned by me. I take the time to select, mill, cut, turn, sand, finish, choose the hardware for each pen and hand make the protective leather sleeves made from reclaimed material with deliberate intention. Each pen is handmade which makes each one unique. I celebrate the natural flaws, the knots, the discolouration and though I have the ability to remake certain styles, no pen is exactly the same – which means no claims of, “I think that is mine”.
